As human resource professionals we should be on the front lines starting the conversations within our organizations about race relations. Don’t wait until an event generates negative publicity for your organization to start a conversation. Racial bias, micro aggression and racism are real and they will not just go away. We recognize that conversations about race can be uncomfortable and somewhat scary. But, having open dialogue with your employees about race relations creates a safe environment for them to share thoughts and find common ground. Research shows these conversations can have a sustainable impact in the workplace. It is imperative for HR to take the lead in stewarding the discussion.

NOLA SHRM is here to help you do just that. We’ll be hosting a Diversity and Inclusion book club with the intent to proactively engage in dialogue that will prepare you to facilitate this sensitive subject. This free online book club will connect virtually through an online forum to discuss books related to D & I.

The book club will give participants the opportunity to:

  • Read interesting books related to Diversity and Inclusion
  • Connect with other HR professionals to grow their professional network and learn from peer.
  • Participate entirely online so the program can work with people's busy schedules.

Our first book has been preselected and is We Can’t Talk aboutThat at Work, by Mary Francis Winters.
You can get your
copy here.

Signups for the book club will close on June 18th.
