DIVERSITY AT NOLA SHRM |
September 15th through October 15th commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month, to honor and embrace the rich culture and history of our Hispanic and Latine members, colleagues and community members. This year's theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM) provides an opportunity to give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the city of New Orleans as well as the nation; including but not limited to important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods and more. We would like to encourage our members to tap into the resources below to join in the celebrations and conversations around HHM. Civility starts with YOU! As things begin to heat up in the world around us, the workplace faces uncertainty around engagement; How do we interact with others with differing ideas, stances and more importantly how do we respectfully interact and partner with them day-in and day-out? SHRM has launched a campaign to encourage HR practitioners to have 1M Civil Conversations at Work. “Practicing civil behavior establishes a safe and empathetic environment where individuals can contribute their best ideas, knowing they will be heard and valued. Civility is more than making others feel comfortable; it's about creating a dynamic, diverse, and productive workplace where everyone can thrive.” Use this link to access the SHRM Civility Starter Kit that contains an infographic with research data, a 5-step guide to encouraging civil conversations in the workplace and a card game called “Cards Against Incivility” to spark up dialogue amongst leaders and employees. Please continue to reference the SHRM.org site for additional resources regarding civility at work. The national SHRM website has a wealth of resources available to help you deepen your understanding and implementation of diversity initiatives in your workplace.
