Getting Talent Back to Work

In this session, hosted by NOLA SHRM, the SHRM Foundation and Getting Talent Back to Work Subject Matter Expert, Dr. Genevieve Rimer from the Center for Employment Opportunities will discuss the value of second chance talent in the workplace. Specifically, Dr. Rimer will provide context to the challenges facing previously incarcerated candidates and the best practices for incorporating a DEI strategy that includes this critical population.

Through this training participants will be able to:

  • Prepare to eliminate discrimination against candidates-for-hire by opening their hiring practices to be more inclusive of those with criminal and/or conviction records.

  • Educate colleagues and peers on the benefits of second chance hiring.

  • Assess and evaluate their company’s commitment to promoting and practicing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the hiring of individuals with criminal and/or conviction records.

  • Employ second chance best practices throughout the employee life cycle.

Dr. Genevieve Rimer has nearly 20 years of professional and lived experience in the reentry field. Her portfolio of expertise includes direct service delivery to people reintegrating from incarceration, providing technical assistance to workforce stakeholders and assisting employers in transforming their workplaces to be inclusive of people with convictions. At CEO, Genevieve leads our inclusive hiring field building efforts which include training workforce stakeholders, developing curricula and speaking on national platforms about the importance of fair chance hiring. Genevieve has a doctorate degree in social work.
